在7月7日 的Michael Jackson告別儀式上，奎恩-拉蒂法（Queen Latifah）朗誦了瑪雅·安吉羅（Maya Angelou）寫的詩《We Had Him》。奎恩曾經也是流行歌曲歌手，上世紀90年代開始轉入銀幕表演生涯，成為著名影星。

美國著名女詩人作家及民權主義者瑪雅·安吉洛（Maya Angelou）2010年6月22日舉辦了一場別開生面的紀念活動，請來邁克爾·傑克遜的粉絲，加入點彩畫家大衛·伊蘭的“百萬歌迷畫邁克爾·傑克遜”活動。活動當天，大衛·伊蘭還幫助歌迷親自描繪代表他們個人的一個圓點，在畫布上的每一個點都代表一個真實存在的人。並朗誦了其創作的詩歌《我們曾經擁有他》（We Had Him）。

We Had Him
Beloveds, now we know that we know nothing,
now that our bright and shining star can slip away from our fingertips
like a puff of summer wind.
Without notice, our dear love can escape our doting embrace.
Sing our songs among the stars and walk our dances across the face of the moon.
In the instant that Michael is gone, we know nothing. No clocks can tell time.
No oceans can rush our tides with the abrupt absence of our treasure.
Though we are many, each of us is achingly alone, piercingly alone.
Only when we confess our confusion can we remember
that he was a gift to us and we did have him.
He came to us from the creator, trailing creativity in abundance.
Despite the anguish, his life was sheathed in mother love, family love,
and survived and did more than that.

We had him whether we know who he was or did not know,
he was ours and we were his.
We had him, beautiful, delighting our eyes.
His hat, aslant over his brow, and took a pose on his toes for all of us.
And we laughed and stomped our feet for him.
We were enchanted with his passion because he held nothing.
He gave us all he had been given.

We are missing Michael.
But we do know we had him, and we are the world.
