當年，在聽過由黃色魔法管弦樂團表演的《面具之後》後，邁克爾·傑克遜與阪本龍一取得聯繫，徵詢許可為這首歌填詞。
這首歌由邁克爾·傑克遜、 Chris Mosdell和阪本龍一創作，後由邁克爾·傑克遜和約翰·麥克萊恩共同製作。
這曲《面具背後》也能聽到黃色魔法管弦樂團演奏的片段。
歌曲最終在2010年底完成，並收錄在他過世後的第一張專輯《邁克爾》（Michael）裡。
2011年，這首歌作為單曲發行，配發了一隻歌迷參與制作的MV。
而這支原本斥鉅資拍攝，以神秘化妝假面舞會為主題的前衛音樂錄影，卻因不明原因被雪藏，直到今天……
我們終於可以從這首MV裡看到歌曲的真義，真愛的缺失，信仰的真空，虛情假意，逢場作戲……
MV中有MJ“This Is It”演唱會伴舞Chucky Klapow和那群著名面具舞者Jabbawockeez的身姿。Chucky Klapow剛在推特上說，還有一個更多舞蹈動作的版本。
